Tuesday 24th October 2017.

Today is WORLD POLIO AWARENESS DAY.

I have just read District Governor Robert Morphet’s excellent article in this morning’s Yorkshire Post headed ‘The War Against Polio hasn’t been won yet’

It highlights more than adequately the contribution Rotary International has made since 1985 in almost eradicating Polio worldwide. It describes the risk to which Rotary volunteers expose themselves, when they deliver vaccine to remote parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan, and quotes the amount of money raised by Rotary Clubs in Yorkshire this year as being in excess of £100,000 for the polio eradication fund.

Huddersfield Rotary Club has contributed to this fund over the years, and this year has purchased 5000 purple crocuses, the symbol of the campaign, which have been planted in both public and private locations around the town.

If you are inspired by reading this, or the article in the Yorkshire Post, and would like to help in the final push towards complete eradication of Polio worldwide, then why not go to our website, www.huddersfieldrotary.org and press the JOIN NOW button on our home page to get further information.

We look forward to hearing from you.

From Rotarian Ian Fillan. Webmaster – Huddersfield Rotary Club.
