WHAT WE DO.

We support Communities.

We raise funds, and then give our time and our money to help others, principally in the local Community, but also nationally and internationally through other Rotary Clubs around the world.

 

FUNDRAISING. 

Our main fund raising event each year is a Dragon Boat Race, which has raised over £200,000 over the last eight years. 70% of the money raised goes to a multitude of Charities chosen by each team, and the balance goes into our Rotary Charity Account for distribution to other local Charities supported regularly by Huddersfield Rotary Club. Other fundraising events include Silent Auctions, Frugal Meals, International Suppers etc.Dragonboat

Each year, at Christmas time, we supply hampers for needy families in Kirklees. We have filled shoe boxes with toys for needy children in Kirklees

Each year, we pay for a student from local schools to attend the Rotary Young Leaders Course. Please refer to our Club News page for details of this year’s RYLA candidate.

 

Rotary Young Chef 2014

Each year,  we organise and cover the costs of a Young Chef Competition for students in local schools. The local winner goes forward to compete in a National Rotary Competition.

We also organise, in conjunction with Huddersfield Pennine, Holmfirth, and Denby Dale Rotary Clubs,  a Design and Technology Competition, again, for local students

 

We have recently contributed to the cost of the refurbishment of two Community Centres in Huddersfield.

We are supporting a ‘clean-up’ of Lockwood Station.

We regularly give our time to

  1. Carry out ‘clean’-up’ operations on Castle Hill and other venues
  2. Plant crocuses in Greenhead Park and other locations, in support of Rotary’s project to eliminate Polio worldwide.

 

We have recently given donations to, amongst others, the following local Charities/organisations:

Kirkwood Hospice

And on a wider arena, we have sent funds to:

Rotary Shelter Boxes, and Disaster Aid tobe used in international disasters (earthquakes, tsunamis etc)

A Rotary initiated fund to help flood victims in Calderdale and elsewhere.

Support the Rotary International campaign to eliminate polio worldwide (Crocuses for Polio).

Army Benevolent Fund, who support injured service men and women returning from conflict zones.

An appeal from a local husband and wife to provide clean water and electricity to an Ethiopian village.

 

WE REALLY ARE FOR COMMUNITIES  – AND WE GET SATISFACTION FROM HELPING OTHERS, AT THE SAME TIME ENJOYING THE FELLOWSHIP WE GET FROM BEING A ROTARIAN.
